The 2023 generation of these scams used cloned footage and AI voices to run fake "livestreams" that looked live. QR codes and wallet addresses on screen collected deposits from Ireland viewers with a promise of double returns.
The addresses were reused across thousands of victims, which is their weakness: on-chain analysis links every deposit, and exchange deposit points can be identified and notified.
Why people still fall for it
Familiarity does the work. A trusted face plus a live format plus urgency ("first 500 viewers") bypasses the scepticism that same person would apply to a text ad.
